Some verbs can be followed by both -ing and to + verb.
like + -ing / like + to— I like doing exercise. / I like to do exercise in the morning.
[Ich mache gern Sport. / Ich mache morgens gern Sport.]love + -ing / love + to— She loves cooking. / She loves to cook for friends.
[Sie kocht sehr gern. / Sie kocht sehr gern für Freunde.]hate + -ing / hate + to— He hates waiting. / He hates to wait in long queues.
[Er hasst es zu warten. / Er hasst es, in langen Schlangen zu warten.]
Verbs followed by -ing:
enjoy + -ing— I enjoy doing grammar exercises.
[Ich mache gern Grammatikübungen.]keep + -ing— She keeps doing the same mistake.
[Sie macht immer wieder denselben Fehler.]avoid + -ing— He avoids doing difficult tasks.
[Er vermeidet es, schwierige Aufgaben zu erledigen.]
Verbs followed by to + verb:
need to + verb— I need to do my homework.
[Ich muss meine Hausaufgaben machen.]hope to + verb— We hope to do well in the test.
