A simple explanation

Word Basic use Example
some We normally use some in positive statements. It means an unspecified number or amount. We bought some souvenirs.
any We normally use any in negative statements. It means none at all. We didn't buy any souvenirs.

Countable plural nouns:
some shops, some photographs, any tickets

Uncountable nouns:
some water, some information, any money

Positive statement:
We found some interesting shops.

Negative statement:
We didn't find any interesting shops.
